Oct 1, 2023 · Wendy Scholten · Belgian Youngsters Auction September 2023
Horses performing in free jumping, a public that appreciates a good jump and an online delegation fervently bidding. These were the ingredients for a successful third Belgian Youngsters Auction on Saturday-night 30 September in Ghlin. Seventeen of the 21 youngsters were sold to various countries. Obama Sitte (Jobolensky Sitte) and Corta Z (Catoki) even went for 54,000 and 50,000 euro.
After the end of the live and online auction Luk Van Puymbroeck, Valentijn De Bock and Daniel and Nicolas Boudrenghien were pleased with the results and the average price of 24,400 euro. “The Belgian Youngsters Auction is clearly in the lift and the objective is to gradually grow to higher levels with horses from proven ancestries and very good jumping manners. That is a solid base already. I also believe that there are few auctions with so much ambiance. This was a pleasant experience for everyone”, says Luk Van Puymbroeck.
Horses that jumped exceedingly well were immediately rewarded with applause and auctioneer Koen Olaerts received new bids at once. “Free jumping is a risky thing because it just has to work out well, but we had confidence in this lot of horses and we were right. We will definitely continue with the free jumping and intend to organise this auction every spring and autumn.”
There is a good chance that the auction will in any case return to Hippodrome De Wallonië, considering the enthusiasm of the public and the excellent facilities. The highest price of 54,000 euro was paid for the 3-yr-old Obama Sitte (Jobolensky Sitte x Rexar du Houssoit). The grey was not the tallest horse of the lot, but jumped with great quality.
The 4-yr-old Corta Z (Catoki x Bamako de Muze) out of the famous Klapscheut family went for 50,000 euro. The mare, closely related to the 1.60m Grand Prix mare Coriona van Klapscheut under Eric Lamaze jumped with great ease and insight time and again. Online the Hungarians did well, claiming the handsomest stallion of the lot, Uderzo Z (Untouchable x Clinton I) out of the line of Cassini I and Clarimo ASK. The impressive grey was knocked down for 30,000 euro.
Two horses changed hands for 26,000 euro: Onyx de Cantraine (Sherman Sitte) and Baila d’Elsendam Z (Bamako de Muze). In total four horses were sold online to Slovakia, Spain, Poland and Hungary, the rest went on the spot, which reflects the buying power of the people present.
